Lying on a stretcher in the resuscitation room. The emergency department is quiet.
I have seen all patients. Trying to catch a few minutes of sleep before the next round. Unable to sleep. Thinking. Looking at the ceilings, monitors, defibrillators.
Pondering about how it must feel to be lying here, not to sleep but to survive.
Many lives end here, on the modern stretcher, whether on the resuscitation room or hospital ward. People just don’t die at home anymore, it is unacceptable for most… yet i feel it would be more appropriate in many.
I’m lucky to be here, healthy. I appreciate everything i have in this life.
We often forget to be happy about the simple things. We often forget the priceless nature of health. It’s time to close my eyes.
Time to sleep. Smile…life is good.
