The other day, a 57 year old man with a temperature of 39.9 accompanied by severe breathing difficulties, coughing and sputum was brought into the resuscitation room. His saturation in the ambient air was 69%. His heart rate was 137. His blood pressure was 88/55. Diagnosis: sepsis on pneumonia.
After a bolus, a good dose of antibiotics and inhalation therapy, he was feeling much better.
- Doc, when can I leave?
- In 2-3 days.
- Why can I leave? I’m really feeling better. I have a lot of work to do, you know.
- Do you know how likely you are to die in the next 24 hours without the intervention of our team?
- No
- I estimate that more than 90% of
- Oh…
- And now I estimate it’s less than 5%.
- Okay. Well, THANK YOU.
- It would be good to quit smoking… I’m not saying it’s just the smoking, but it doesn’t help.
My timing for the smoking intervention was perfect. The likelihood of my intervention being effective? Less than 5%. I’m an emergency physician because I like this kind of cases.
But you know I’m considered a pill pusher… The worst kind and I work in collusion with the diabolical conglomerate of big pharma who only wants to make a profit. Besides, I am pro-vaccine!
I’m not worried, one day, it’s almost inevitable, you’ll need my services and big pharma products. In spite of the criticisms against my practice and their products, you will come see me one day and you will be happy that we are there for you.
As long as you are in perfect health, you can easily criticize modern medicine…. When we are really sick, it is not the homeopath who will heal us…
Whether you are “normal” or granulo-naturo-gluten free – paleo, I will be there to serve you when you need me, when you are really sick.
