The gift of bread…

There is nothing simpler than a piece of bread.

And yet making it can be an art.

And yet, eating it can be a source of great pleasure.

This Christmas, i decided to give the gift of bread to my friends and family.

I love the idea of taking something simple like flour and, through time and work, tansform it into something joyfully nourishing.

I knew nothing about bread. Last fall, i tried to make bread, all kinds of bread. Machine made. Hand made. Home made.  I read. I searched. I tried. I failed as often as i succeeded.  I wanted to find a recipe that would be simple enough that my son could make it.

In the end, i made my own.  I did not create it. I just took all the complicated stuff about bread making and i threw them away. What is left are the bare essentials: flour – water – yeast  and a tiny bit of salt and sugar.

It is a recipe so simple and so easy that  it is impossible to fail.

It taste great and it does not take all day, just 10 minutes preparation and half an hour baking in the oven.

Eat it plain just right out of the oven with butter, it will fill your world with joy.

Spread it thin and wide, it makes a great pizza crust.

Make a bun and add chocolate chips, your children will go crazy about your creation.

Tonight, i spent the entire evening making and delivering warm chocolate bread to neighbors and friends. I gave them a loaf of bread but i also gave them my recipe.

There is a saying: Give a man a fish, feed him for a day but teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Same goes for bread.

This is my gift to you my friends. This christmas, i want to convince you that making bread is simple and fun. If my son Liam can make bread, you can too.

Here is my simple recipe for a delicious fresh easy fast and simple home made chocolate bread.

The basic recipe is simple. You can mix in cheese instead of chocolate. Once you understand the basic, you imagine different possibilities.

Just watch the video and enjoy.

Happy new year!
