I am in the third week of Yale’s course, available on www.coursera.org
I can only say good things about this course.
I have always had an interest in well being and happiness.
I consider myself a very happy and grateful person.
But there is also much to learn about happiness and well-being. It is a subject of infinite depth.
This course is more than just listening and reading. We can talk about happiness and well being all day but it does not mean that at the end of the day, we are truly happy.
There is a big difference with many steps between knowing and doing and being. This course is all about learning but also doing and being.
One of my homework this week is to savor something every day.
This morning, i took 5 min to make myself a coffee, sit down and savor it while listening to classical music. It was a really nice happy moment. It brought much joy.
It cost nothing and took just a few minutes.
We learn that happiness is 50% genetic. How glass half full or half empty you are at your core is built in your DNA.
Only 10% of happiness is related to life situation and events.
The good news is that 40% of our happiness is under our control, it’s about what we do in our mind and how we see and connect with the world. We can enhance our well being with simple skills and tricks like practicing gratefulness, savoring moments, connecting with people, random acts of kindness, mindfullness, etc.
