Just do it challenge

Self-care is practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness.

Last month, i wrote about saying 30 thank  yous in 30 days  and how gratitude really did make my life better.

This month, I am reflecting on self-care.

If you are like me, and i know most of you are… you spent your entire lives taking care of others: children, parents, friends, co-workers, etc.  and that left little time for the most important person in your life: you!

Like me, your calendars are probably filled with things to do, appointments, errands, meetings, etc… and your life sometimes feels like a never ending race.  We all dream of living at a slower pace but too often, we fail to plan for this and actually make the choices that will realize this vision.

For the next month, i challenge you to take your calendar and schedule at least two meetings with yourself lasting at least  two hours.   It’s reserved time for you that you can spend doing anything you love.   Don’t work, don’t empty your to do list, don’t go to Costco, do something just for you. Indulge in the simple pleasure of treating yourself to anything that bring joy in your life: a bath in the middle of the afternoon, a good book, a nap, a visit to the spa, coffee with a friend, a long walk in the woods, a good movie with popcorn, a massage, a visit to the ski hills.

I have been doing this practice for a while now and i can tell you that when I take care of me, when my emotional batteries are full, I am more available, i have more energy and attention for the people that are important in my life.

Just do it… Just take care of you.

I promise you will enjoy.

And if you like, share with your friends, your spouse, your family. Let’s give ourselves the gift of time and attention that we deserve.

Thank you.
