Telling my dad “I love you”

On the power of strong emotions and the strength that comes with allowing ourselves to be vulnerable…

As i am listening to this beautiful song about being a father and a son, about life and the end of life, tears freely flow on my cheeks.

I am touched by the music and the words that resonate with a message i sent my own father last month.

(Monsters by James Blunt)

Before I share this special part of my life, let me tell you something…

Never be afraid of strong emotions, they give meaning to our lives and push us to become better human beings.

Never be afraid of tears…courage grows when we allow them in our lives.

Time flies, don’t wait until the end to tell your father that you love him… Just do it now.

———-

Hello Dad,

Tonight I want to take the time to thank you.

There is no particular reason, I just want to say thank you.

Life goes by too fast, I will soon be 45 years old… about the age you were on this picture. It was at the beginning of winter 1985. I was 11 years old, about Liam’s age.

I want you to know that if I am a good father today, it is because I try to be like you, to love my son as you loved me.

Thank you for your presence in my life since I was born,

Thank you for your love that gave me wings,

Thank you for your humor that always made me smile,

Thank you for your legendary perseverance that has always inspired me.

I am lucky enough to have a son who often tells me how much he loves me and it makes me so happy to hear that.

I realize that I haven’t said those words to my dad all that often and it’s important to me that you know, believe and never forget that:

I love you dad!
