On living and really listening…

I love music. It’s a big part of my life. Music elevates my soul.

I can spend an evening doing nothing but listening to music in my living room and watching wood burn in the fireplace.

Today, as i am preparing fresh oven baked bread and a salad for a nice healthy lunch, I have music playing in the background.  Suddenly, I have a flash of understanding.  I sit down in my living room and i take the time to really listen. The music moves me.

There are many ways of listening to music. It can be a background atmosphere or it can be the focus of my attention. It’s the same music but it’s not the same experience.  When i focus my attention of what i am doing, the experience is much richer, much more fulfilling, much more meaningful.

I understand now that i can live my life the same way i can listen to music. My life can be in the background of everything else or it can be the focus of my attention.  Life is more enjoyable when i pay attention.

I have repeated over and over that time is one of the most precious resource in my life. I would say now that attention is even more precious than time. One can have time but no focus. Focus makes time meaningful.

And this principle also applies to relationship. When I am with you, I want to really be with you, be present to the qualities of your soul, to the emotion and experience we share.

Here is a piece of music that is worth my attention this morning, let’s take the time to stop and enjoy this time we have.

Thank you.
