To the fitness / endurance enthusiasts …

I was one of you. I ran marathon. I did long distance everything, running, rowing, hiking. I pushed myself in the gym and out.

But in the last few years, I slowed down. Why? I see an epidemic of injuries around me, in people my age and dy objective is to live long and well, to stay mobile, to avoid injury and, mostly, to just have fun when i play.

James O’Keefe is an american cardiologist, Director of Preventive Cardiology at the Mid America Heart Institute of Saint Luke’s hospital.  In this TED talk, he explains why moderate exercise is awesome for our health but, for the extremist, less is better.

He also tells the sad story of Micah True, ultramarathonner and hero of the 2009 book “Born to run”, who died in 2012 at the age of 58 of heart disease.

Conclusion, as in everything in life… all things in moderation.
