If you have followed me long enough, you know I am passionate about everything related to mountain bikes…
I’ve been waiting a long time to write about ebikes, I wanted to be ready… but today, as I came home after another epic ride in the woods, I realized that, in 4 weeks, I rode more than the entire winter last year… so I had to explain why I love my ebike so much.
It’s not until I went to Squamish that I fell in love with an assisted dual suspension mountain bike. In a few words, you can appreciate why: 1800m total elevation in one day… It’s just more fun with less pain.
I am sorry but, at 46 years old, I am done with the “no pain no gain attitude”… I don’t want to be a high performance athlete. At the end of the day, I just want more fun, no pain and be healthy. That’s all am asking for. As we age, hopefully beautifully, being pain and injury free is a blessing.
The unexpected joys that come with riding an e-bike convinced me even more that there is a revolution coming…
Yes, you can go further, higher, faster and longer, that is expected. But wait… when you ride with friends or family on e-bikes, everyone goes to the same speed, covers the same distance no matter what level of fitness… I rode with my girlfriend, my son, my friends and the shared pleasure that comes with just being together without anyone having to wait and anyone having to feel like a drag on the group, this even better than going faster or further…
When I inject speed in an activity, I increase my pleasure… this is the reason why I love downhill skiing and biking so much. This is true for many of us but… let me be clear and repeat this again: the big revolution of ebikes is not speed, it’s people of all ages and fitness levels enjoying an activity together.
And let me tell you right now, before you even think about it, this is not for the lazy… I come back from my rides exhausted…and smiling. I like to go fast and I must pedal hard to go fast. But the difference is… freedom and control. I pick when I want to burn my legs and when I want to relax. It’s a big feature… freedom and control on pain levels. And since I have more fun and less pain, I just go out ten times more often… sorry but I burned much more calories on my ebike in a few weeks in 2021 than on my bike in the winter of 2020.
