On real vs perceived danger…

Most of my family and friends have or will soon receive their Covid-19 vaccine.

Most of them got a shot of Astra Zeneca’s vaccine. Everyone is well and healthy. I am relieved.

Rationally, this image explains well the odds and helps us make a decision.

May be an image of text that says 'Risk of Blood Clots AstraZeneca Vaccine Birth Control Pill Smoking AstraZeneca COVID Infection GROTOLO 4 cases in 1,000,000 Vaccines 0.0004% 500 1200 cases in 1,000,000 women 1,763 cases in 1,000,000 Smokers 0.05% to 0.12% 165,000 cases in 1,000,000 Cases Maria Leonor Ramos Hédica Interna de Medicina Geral Familiar Agincla Europela HongH Pulinonary Embolismy 2021 0.18% td 16.5% Venous'

Unfortunately, this image does not speak to our emotions, to our hearts and, most of the time, emotions are the driver of human behaviours and decisions.

I love analogies to explain complex ideas. There is nothing like a good story to sum that up.

We are a tribe of cavemen and we live in a cavern where a bear has decided to spend the next 2 years. Every week or so, the bear kills and eats one of us.

The solution is simple and has been proposed by our wise elders. Many of us just got out of the cave to live in the wild but some of us feared that, outside, there is a real possibility of being hit by lightning and dying on the spot so they decided to stay inside where it is warm and comfortable.
