How intelligence, empathy and kindness are inevitable friends

Over the past year, I have incorporated the daily use of GPT4 into my life, an experience that has enabled me to learn how to use it and witness its ongoing evolution. What impresses me most is GPT’s ability to exhibit a certain form of emotional intelligence, which, in many ways, can sometimes be superior to that seen in many individuals. I firmly believe that intelligence, in all its forms, significantly contributes to better collaboration, decreased aggressiveness, and deeper reflection, thus bringing a multitude of benefits to our society. Access to various forms of intelligence, whether inherent in individuals or derived from external sources like GPT4, will lead not to the destruction but to the advancement of our world.

I have noticed that individuals with true intelligence, both emotional and rational, tend to avoid aggressive and violent behaviours. Intelligence is inherently linked to kindness, compassion and empathy, all pro-social competencies and essential qualities for the development of modern societies.

Regarding the intelligence of GPT-4, it is more based on linguistic skills than on sheer computational abilities. It is more emotionally than rationally oriented. Watching its development over the past year, I’ve noted decreased perceptual errors, increased caution and nuances in its responses.

Although I consider myself a modest nobody in this vast field and acknowledge my limitations compared to experts, this reflection remains my personal opinion.

Suppose intelligence is defined as the ability to solve increasingly complex problems. In that case, it must lead to collaboration and sharing of resources from diverse sources as they are the most efficient paths to success. Pro-social skills are the keys to unlocking the best in each individual and pooling a group’s sources of creativity. This perspective enriches the idea that intelligence, as it favours cooperation and mutual support, is a powerful engine for a better world. Collaboration, spurred by collective intelligence, is essential to tackle the complex challenges of our time. Moreover, kindness, compassion and empathy are central aspects of emotional intelligence and play a pivotal role in enhancing and utilizing creativity in a group setting. They create an environment conducive to innovation and the emergence of novel solutions, thus illustrating the synergy between cognitive and emotional intelligence.

Additionally, intelligence necessarily leads to more efficient win-win solutions in non-zero-sum games like the ones that model our world. In such scenarios, the intelligent choice isn’t about defeating others but about finding solutions that benefit all parties involved. This approach aligns with the idea that true intelligence fosters collective progress and well-being.
